Middletown Township Community Center Table
Table Design
After discussing the goals for this table and the space it will live in, we designed a table inspired by the history of the school building that it will call home. We made this scale model to show the proportions and overall look of the table to made out of white oak. Since making the model, we have tweaked the design to lift the trestle up off the floor for easy cleaning below. We have also agreed to add an engraved ‘Township of Middletown, Established in 1686’ into the edge of the table top.
Getting Started
We sourced some white oak from Picture Rocks, PA. The white oak is quartersawn, a name referring to the way the boards were sawn out of the log. Quartersawn oak has straight grain and ray fleck, a detail that appears in the grain that adds a beautiful, natural detail. First, we arranged and rearranged the boards to decide how they would best look glued together in wide form. Then, we cut the boards down to length and got to gluing!
